Hey Wing fans. Sorry about not blogging after either game this weekend, but between holiday dinner and two horrible hockey games, I needed time to digest  everything (literally).

After that four-game winning streak things felt good in Hockeytown last week, but that all came to a screeching halt, especially with that loss to the lowly Stars. Howard had very little help defensively with two Dallas goals coming from a defenseman who rarely gets an attempt to put a shot on goal. It was disappointing to watch after that shutout of Tampa Bay.

With all of the injuries, the inconsistent play is expected. With continuously different lines every night and guys being moved back and forth between Detroit and Grand Rapids, getting into a comfortable groove is going to be tough.

As for Sunday, granted again, the defense didn’t give Ozzy a great deal of help, but I think again the performance by Chris shows that Howard is the best goalkeeper we have right now. This isn’t a vendetta against him, he has been my favorite Red Wing since taking over the No. 1 job after Vernon left after the 1997 Cup run. As much as it hurts me to say it, I think Ozzy is having trouble getting into the zone right now. I just think Mike Babcock needs to place Howard at the top of the depth chart for right now. He gives the Wings the best chance to win.

A positive for the Wings this weekend was the continued solid play of Pav and Bert. Those two have been carrying a great deal of the offensive load as of late because, well…they pretty much have to with the players out with injuries. I hope they will keep it up through the next two weeks at least with Hank on the shelf.
