Same old story

Congratulations to Jimmy Howard for earning the first shutout of his career last night and playing a major role in keeping the Red Wings winning streak alive. It has been fun watching them play as well as they have despite the injuries.

However, despite the four-game winning streak, Hockeytown is holding it collective breathe today as we await word on the status of Henrik Zetterberg.

As has been the case already this week, and for the most part the entire season, the Wings earned a big win, but lost another player. Only this time it was one of the brightest stars on the team.

This injury has me a little concerned, especially if it is serious. I place Hank up there in the same category as Pavel Datsyuk. He is a play maker that even if he is struggling to score, he is still a difference maker on the ice and makes the team better.

Also, if Hank is out for an extended period, we are going to need Bertuzzi to stay hot and some other guys to step up. I am starting to get the feeling that the Wings are gaining momentum right now and are starting to return to the standard that we hold the franchise to.

As soon as I hear anything regarding Hank’s injury and a timetable for his return, I will post it.

On a more positive note, Howard, Osgood and the defense are starting to look very good.  Both goalies seem to be seeing the puck well and becoming a formidable one-two punch in net. The Wings as a team are holding opponents to 1.5 GPG during this current winning streak.

Before I go, another congratulations goes out to head coach Mike Babcock for earning the 300th win of his coaching career. Hope to see 300 more behind the Red Wing bench.

Also a thumbs up to Drew Miller for scoring a an impressive, highlight reel goal against his former team.

Just got this tid-bit of information from George Malik's blog on Mlive.com. Henrik Zetterberg had an MRI this morning, but nothing has been released yet. OH, he is also taking up donations for a witch doctor to come into the Wings dressing room to frighten away the evil spirits. I swear I am about to send each player a rabbits foot, four-leaf clover and a horseshoe...On second thought, forget the horseshoe, someone my drop it on their foot and be out for a month our two.
