You take the good, you take the bad

The three-game winning streak feels great, and it was nice to see the Wings get a win in regulation finally. However, it came at the expense of another player suffering an injury that will keep him out of the line up.

Johnathan Ericsson will be out indefinitely with a knee injury he suffered in Monday night’s game against Phoenix. Doug Janick has been called up from Grand Rapids to replace the defenseman in the lineup.

I know that injuries are up this year in the NHL, but why do the Wings have to have half of them. Yet, look at where Detroit is right now – they are still in the playoff hunt and, at least over the last three games, are playing some pretty solid hockey.

We knew coming into the season that this was going to be a year that Wings fans were going to have to experience something we haven’t in a while.

Most of us realistically knew coming in that the our team wasn’t going to just bolt to the top of the standings and earn a convincing lead in the Central Division, and that was before we lost some of our top players.

Right now, staying in contention for a playoff spot should be the main goal of this team. If they can give themselves a chance at keeping the postseason streak alive, then who knows what might happen. I know it is still early in the season, but could you imagine a Wings/Avs match up in the opening round of the Western Conference Playoffs? Congrats Colorado, you earned the No. 2 seed and you get to take on the No. 7 seeded Red Wings, who at playoff time should have The Mule, Val, J-Will, Cleary and Ericsson back in the line up. Not to mention one goaltender that plays his best hockey in the postseason and another that has shown signs of absolute brilliance so far this season.

I am not pushing the panic button, heck I am still on the other side of the room from it. We are a ‘shorthanded’ team right now with every team getting a 60 minute power play every time they step on the ice with us. So the Wings just have to battle through it and keep the other teams from doing too much damage.
