The only thing I can amount tonight’s loss to is bad puck luck.
Although I thought the Wings had some impressive possessions, Edmonton had the better scoring chances, and capitalized on them.
The game was tough to watch, especially when I had to settle for the replay after I knew the outcome, but it goes back to the lack of cohesiveness caused by too many regulars being injured.
With yet more injuries finding their way into the Red Wing locker room, Stuart and Eaves were out of action tonight, and yet Babcock had to pull another Griffin from the other side of the state to fill a void in the line up.
Although Jakub Kindl had a solid debut, the fact that it was another new face out on the ice means that once again the Wings have to allow another Griffin to catch up.
Again, I am not saying anything negative about Kindl’s talent as he has been a solid AHL player, but chemistry is hard to develop when guys are in and out of line ups, and up and down from the minors. That is why after it looked like the Wings had found their swag earlier this week I had a bad feeling about tonight.
At this point, since the injured will more than likely have a rehab stint in Grand Rapids, we may just want to move the Red Wings to Grand Rapids and bring the Griffins to Detroit until a majority of those on the DL come back. At least we will have some consistency in the lines.
On the positive side of things, once those who are out are back, I think the team will make a run at the top of the Central. Despite the injury bug running rampant, these are the Red Wings and they have shown that they still have talent. Once we get the proper ingredients off the shelves, it will just be a matter of time before Babcock creates a winning formula.
It’s just simple chemistry.
