A goal would be nice

The Red Wings were able to find just enough goals against Columbus Saturday night, but Monday the well was dry yet again at they were shut out for the sixth time this season.
Howie had a great game between the pipes, but got as muc h help as the Lions defense got Sunday in San Fan. End result the same, a great effort by the group presenting scores wasted by the group that is supposed to score.
All I have to say is I really hope that I have stuff to talk about come playoff time. Between March Madness and Stanly Cup playoff [...]

I’m back

AUTHOR: wingnut5013 | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sorry about the long layoff between blogs. Christmas was hectic, seeing as my family and I had three of them this week.
However, I am back and will be starting back up with post game reaction to the second of the home-and-home with Columbus.
Before going I will say that I am thrilled to see Bert once again look like the offensive threat he was back in Vancouver, and him and Pavel have been doing what they have needed while the walking injured have been recovering. That two-goal game though from Bert was great to see. Hope he can keep it up.
I [...]

A new low

For the most part I have tried to keep pretty optimistic about the Red Wings.
I am still optimistic about the team being better once players start coming back from the disabled list, but seeing them get shutout twice by the Blackhawks is very hard to swallow.
It started when I saw Hossa come on to the ice tonight, thought I might throw up (think I did a little in my mouth) then to watch Patrick Kane lead Chicago to another win while the Wings struggled to get anything going as a hot-headed collage football coach once said – “Makes me want to [...]

Weekend to Forget

AUTHOR: wingnut5013 | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hey Wing fans. Sorry about not blogging after either game this weekend, but between holiday dinner and two horrible hockey games, I needed time to digest  everything (literally).
After that four-game winning streak things felt good in Hockeytown last week, but that all came to a screeching halt, especially with that loss to the lowly Stars. Howard had very little help defensively with two Dallas goals coming from a defenseman who rarely gets an attempt to put a shot on goal. It was disappointing to watch after that shutout of Tampa Bay.
With all of the injuries, the inconsistent play is expected. [...]

Same old story

AUTHOR: wingnut5013 | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Congratulations to Jimmy Howard for earning the first shutout of his career last night and playing a major role in keeping the Red Wings winning streak alive. It has been fun watching them play as well as they have despite the injuries.
However, despite the four-game winning streak, Hockeytown is holding it collective breathe today as we await word on the status of Henrik Zetterberg.
As has been the case already this week, and for the most part the entire season, the Wings earned a big win, but lost another player. Only this time it was one of the brightest stars on [...]

You take the good, you take the bad

The three-game winning streak feels great, and it was nice to see the Wings get a win in regulation finally. However, it came at the expense of another player suffering an injury that will keep him out of the line up.
Johnathan Ericsson will be out indefinitely with a knee injury he suffered in Monday night’s game against Phoenix. Doug Janick has been called up from Grand Rapids to replace the defenseman in the lineup.
I know that injuries are up this year in the NHL, but why do the Wings have to have half of them. Yet, look at where Detroit [...]

The suspense is killing me…but it is sure fun

AUTHOR: wingnut5013 | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

WOW!!! Two OT wins in as many games!!!!
The Red Wings have sure bonuced back from a lack luster performance agains the Blues with two exciting wins over the Ducks and Predators.
Those wins were big on so many levels. First. and most obvious, it gives the WIngs four big points. Secondly, not only were they both against Western Conference teams they are battling in the playoff chase, but getting the win over Nashville, a huge division rival, makes a statment that the Wings are still the team to beat in the Central.
I know we as Red Wing fans are not used [...]

Howie Wowie

AUTHOR: wingnut5013 | IN: Red Wings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jimmy Howard my not be a No. 1 goaltender yet, but I think he is on his way.
In a season of inconsistent play for the Red Wings, Howard has too had games where he has been a as reliable at holding pucks as a spaghetti strainer is at retaining water. However, there has also be some moments of brilliance. The most recent, the toe stop on a Penalty shot taken by the Ranger’s Ryan Callahan to keep the Wings down by only one goal Sunday night. He also had his best game of the season, stopping 28 shots to help [...]
