I know I have been supportive and tried to keep a positive outlook on the season over the last couple of weeks, but after allowing a struggling Oilers team to dominate for two periods like they did last night was almost too much to bear.
Look, bottom line is that the defense needs to toughen up and keep other teams from getting rebounds, but the goalies need to not allow the opposing offenses to control things in the defensive zone like they have.
The way Jimmy Howard’s night started was similar to how Osgood’s did in the win over Vancouver. One of [...]

Offensive outburst
WOW!!! That’s what I have been waiting for!
With the start Vancouver had tonight I wasn’t too confident that the Wings would grab that elusive first road win of the season, but they responded to the line shake ups by Mike Babcock.
The biggest thing was tonight was the puck movement. Even a solid goalie like Roberto Luango, the line of Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Homer looked real comfortable, making plays and accounting for four of the Wings five goals. After struggling in the third period for most of the season, they put together probably the most successful final frame in the NHL [...]
Wings at Canucks tonight
The Red Wings look to snap their three-game losing streak and earn their first road win of the season tonight in Vancouver.
Detroit is coming off a 3-1 loss to Colorado on Saturday where they out-played the Avs for most of the night, but were held to one goal by goalie Craig Anderson.
Mike Babcock is continplating tweaking some of his lines as his team tries to right the ship after what he calls “the worst start of my tenure. He has also listed Darren Helm as a healthy scratch.
The puck is set to drop at 10 p.m EST. Look back on [...]

Another tough night
Well once again lady luck decided not to take sides with our Heroes from HockeyTown as although they beat Colorado in almost every facet of the game, they fell short in the category that matters the most – on the scoreboard.
Just like a week ago at the Joe, the Red Wings kept Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson busy, peppering him with 49 shots, but were only able to put the burnt biscuit in the basket once on Kris Drapers tough put back goal in the second. Colorado tied the game before the end of period, and then took the lead just [...]
Red Wings v. Avs tonight
If there is one team that I would love to see the Wings get back on track against, it would be the Avs. We should have beaten them a week ago at the Joe in that disappointing loss that still haunts my dreams (OK, not really but if it would have been a playoff loss then yes it would have).
Bottom line, getting that first road win is a must at this point because I think that will break the seal so to speak and could give this team the confidence it seems to be lacking right now. I expect Pavel [...]
Sticking with the Wings
So I get home from work and find out that the Wings had another game in the bag, only to lose, this time on a controversial goal where Ozzy gets pushed back into the goal with t he puck underneath him, and then we can’t hold on in overtime.
As long as I have been a Red Wings fan (now going on almost 20 years) I have never seen a start like this one. However I don’t think it is time to panic just yet. Getting Pavel back was a positive and from what I saw, he looked pretty good out [...]
